Good Luck Chuck

Crass and crude and mostly annoying humor

VIDEO: Watch the trailer for Good Luck Chuck.

The only plausible scenario in this movie is the idea that a woman would be so annoyed by Dane Cook, she’d be willing to put a curse on him. He plays generic nice guy Chuck, who in spite of being a generic nice guy has a personality so grating that every woman he sleeps with falls in love with the next guy she dates. Which is fine with him, as it means an endless string of guilt-free (and, for this viewer at least, nausea-inducing) one-night stands. Then he meets Jessica Alba’s penguin-obsessed scientist and decides he’d like her for himself. Director Mark Helfrich, a former editor making his directorial debut, concentrates on crass and crude “humor” — jokes about the general unattractiveness of overweight people, the innate funniness of people walking into poles and falling down, and lots of boobies. Teenage boys will be thrilled. They’ll be the only ones.
